Building a Livable Community

The Town of Oakville is building and enhancing facilities that make our community more livable by providing spaces for sports, recreation, arts and culture that meet the growing needs of our residents. The town is also at work on several projects to improve Oakville's roads and infrastructure.

New Transit Facility

Project Funding Start Date End Date
The town's top priority for infrastructure funding, the new facility will house additional buses and maintenance equipment needed to support the town's new transit service design and the increased demands of the community.

$30 million from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, provided jointly by the federal and provincial government. The remaining $15 million will be funded through the town's capital budget. Summer 2009 Spring 2011
 

Queen Elizabeth Park Community Centre

The existing QE Park Community Centre building is undergoing renovations to create a unique multipurpose recreation, arts and culture facility.

Sports Fields and Facilities

North Park

Will include a 1,500-seat Olympic-sized ice surface and three NHL-sized ice pads.

Artificial turf field
North Park

Part of a sports park that will include four soccer fields and a cricket pitch.

$1 million from the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario (RInC Ontario) and Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC) for the artificial turf field. The town will fund the remaining $500,000 from its capital budget. Fall 2009 Fall 2010

Bronte Athletic Park

Will accommodate soccer, football and field hockey to help meet the increased demand from residents for fields for these sports.

Upgrades to bleachers, players' benches and fencing will also be completed.

Kinoak arena

Upgrades to the front entrance to comply with new accessibility standards; roof and brick repairs; replacement of a portion of the flat roof with green roof technology; a marquee sign and flagpole.

$334,000 through RInC Ontario and RInC Canada. The town will fund the remaining $166,000 through its capital budget. Winter 2010 Summer 2010
